How Can the Built Environment Support Virtual Care and Create a More Accessible Webside Manner?
For decades, patients have been getting into a car, driving to a doctor’s office and seeing a healthcare provider face-to-face. Today, with changing technology and shifting consumer attitudes, healthcare systems are leveraging virtual care as an efficient, convenient way to connect with patients. Where and how this virtual care is delivered can vary. Virtual care can be deployed at home, in hubs that support multiple clinicians across many service lines, in emergency departments, and in the community, including rural outpatient clinics, at work, or even local retail outlets. Across all these different spaces, stakeholders are exploring how the built environment can support the same, high-quality webside manner as patients and clinicians enjoy in person. New research shows how breaking down patient, clinician, and system barriers, considering adjacencies, and calibrating design criteria can help architects and designers create spaces that improve the patient and clinician virtual care experience.
Through this course, you will learn about trends and benefits of virtual care, the challenges of delivering virtual care as effectively as face-to-face care, design principles that create a favorable webside manner, and the best way these principles are applied in practice.
We invite you to join us as we create a more engaging and approachable healthcare experience for everyone.
